Pick your mode when you record and Backrow tailors the output: lectures become study kits, meetings become recaps with action items, interviews become themes and quotes, and recordings become show notes.

Yes. Creating an account is free and needs no card, and every new account gets a one-time welcome gift of 200 credits plus 45 minutes of recording. Beyond that, usage is metered in credits: you can subscribe monthly (Starter $9.99, Scholar $24.99, Pro $44.99, Max $99.99) for a recurring credit allowance, or buy pay-as-you-go credit packs with no subscription. The REST API and MCP server are available on every plan; features and allowances vary by plan.

Backrow works on any device with a modern web browser: laptops, desktops, tablets, and smartphones. We also offer a desktop app for Windows and macOS with extras like Screen Assist, a menu-bar popup that answers questions about whatever is on your screen.

Credits are our pay as you go currency. Different tools cost different amounts of credits based on their complexity. Simple tools like flashcard generation use fewer credits, while advanced features like essay writing or math solving use more. You only pay for what you use.

Optional credit packs range from $2.99 for 100 credits to $59.99 for 3,000 credits before any eligible plan bonus. See the pricing page for current packs and availability. Subscription allowances are separate.

No! Your credits never expire. Once purchased, they remain in your account until you use them. There's no pressure to use them quickly.

Our Terms of Service explain refunds and any applicable withdrawal rights. Unused credits from a cancelled plan are not refunded for cash; failed generations caused by us return credits to your balance. Contact support@backrow.ai for a refund request.

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover) through our secure Stripe payment processor. All transactions are encrypted and PCI compliant.

Our AI uses state of the art models routed intelligently by task. While highly accurate, AI can make mistakes. We always recommend verifying important information, especially for academic submissions. Our tools show explanations so you can understand and verify the reasoning.

Yes! Backrow supports all academic subjects, including STEM (Math, Science, Engineering), Humanities, Languages, Business, Law, and Medicine, and adapts to your level. Beyond school, it works just as well for meetings, client calls, research interviews, and podcast or video recordings. The AI adapts to whatever you bring it.

You can upload PDFs, PowerPoint presentations (PPTX), Word documents (DOCX), images, and text files. Our AI will extract and process the content for study materials, summaries, and more.

Pick Lecture, Meeting, Interview, Content, or Personal mode and hit record. Backrow uses the mode to organize the output: revision material, decisions and actions, themes and quotes, production notes, or personal ideas and reminders. Your plan determines the transcription and analysis features available.

Recording laws vary by location and institution. You are responsible for obtaining permission from your instructor and complying with your institution's policies. Many institutions allow recording for personal educational use with instructor consent.

Our transcription uses industry leading AI speech recognition, achieving 95%+ accuracy in most conditions. Accuracy may vary based on audio quality, accents, and background noise.

Yes! All transcriptions are fully editable. You can correct any errors, add notes, highlight important sections, and organize content as needed.

Screen Assist lives in the menu-bar popup of the Backrow desktop app. Open it, ask about whatever is on your screen (a confusing slide, a spreadsheet, an error message, a contract clause, a meeting deck), and AI answers from a snapshot of your screen. It is part of the desktop app only: there is no web version or browser extension. Each answer costs 5 credits.

Only if you start a hands-free session in the popup. Then it checks for meaningful changes on your screen and answers when something new appears, at 5 credits per answer, and the menu-bar icon shows that it is watching. It keeps going until you end the session, and it never captures your screen unless you open the popup and ask or start a session.

No. Using Screen Assist or any AI assistance during proctored exams without explicit permission is academic dishonesty and violates most institutions' honor codes. Our tools are designed for learning and study preparation, not exam cheating.

Yes. We use industry standard encryption (TLS/SSL) for all data in transit and at rest. Your data is stored securely on Supabase infrastructure with role based access controls. We never sell your personal information.

Only you can access your notes, recordings, and study materials. We do not share your content with other users. Our AI processes your content solely to provide the service features.

We collect account information (email, name), content you create (notes, recordings), and usage data to improve the service. See our Privacy Policy for complete details.

Yes. You can delete individual notes, recordings, or your entire account at any time. When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed within 30 days.

Backrow is designed as a learning tool to help you understand concepts, not to do your work for you. Using AI to learn, study, and understand material is generally acceptable. However, submitting AI generated content as your own work violates academic integrity policies at most institutions.

Use our tools to: understand difficult concepts through explanations, prepare for exams with practice questions, organize and review your notes, get step by step solutions to learn problem solving methods, and improve your writing through feedback. Always do your own work and use AI as a learning aid, not a replacement for learning.

Some institutions have policies restricting AI tool usage. You are responsible for knowing and following your institution's academic integrity policies. When in doubt, ask your instructor what tools are permitted for specific assignments.
